About Me

For several years I worked as an assistant in a kindergarten/daycare centre. I was particularly intrigued by the children who had assumed the roles of either the “bully” or the “victim”. I wanted to understand what motivated their behaviours and attitudes. I had also observed that some of the children often appeared to be so unhappy. I wanted to know how I could help them; however, children don't always have the words to identify or explain their feelings and needs.

During this period, I was introduced to the field of art therapy - an intervention that allows for non-verbal self expression. After researching this therapeutic modality and learning how it works – and how well it works – I began the journey of becoming a qualified art therapist.

I hold a graduate level diploma from The Toronto Art Therapy Institute. My graduate level thesis examined the efficacy of art therapy with children  struggling with issues of low self-esteem. I am a member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association, the Ontario Art Therapy Association and the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists.

While my journey toward becoming an art therapist began as a quest to help children with unmet emotional needs, since completing my training I have also had the opportunity to work with adults within a variety of settings. It's exciting to witness how art therapy can be successful with individuals of all ages.

Currently I conduct short and long term individual and/or group art therapy programs and workshops for a number of community organizations. My professional experience includes providing art therapy services within school, social service, community centre, hospital, and long-term care settings - either as a part-time employee or as an independent contractor.

Although I currently do not have space in which to conduct art therapy sessions, under certain circumstances, I am also able to see a small number of individuals in the private sector.

Via the combination of verbal and non-verbal psychotherapy, I employ a client-centred approach and conduct my art therapy programs in accordance with the unique needs of each organization and each individual who seek to benefit from my services.

I would be happy to discuss bringing art therapy to you, your organization or your private practice. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you'd like to book a free "no obligation" consultation.
